Southern Lights is proud to be one of the longest operating turn-key outdoor lighting
providers in North Carolina.
Southern Lights was founded by landscape architect John Garner. His vision of a service oriented firm built on foundations of creative design and sound engineering became a reality in 1994. Initially a solo owner-operator the firm incorporated after several years and has grown tenfold, emerging as a solid experienced team.
Southern Lights’ clients benefit from that experience and stability, receiving exterior lighting solutions individualized to fit their specific needs. From initial consult, through design and installation process, to as-built documentation and continuing repair and maintenance service, clients receive thoughtful individual attention to make their lighting issues “one less thing” to worry about. Design
Systems are designed to solve specific challenges unique to each project. Ambient light levels, architectural style, materials in use on site, vehicular and pedestrian traffic patterns, budget and other factors are taken into account to create individual solutions for each project. We work alone or with your design team as circumstances dictate. Comprehensive design has value. Reasonable fees may apply.
Installation
All systems are installed to NEC (National Electric Code) guidelines. We are fortunate to have a core group of experienced production personnel to make the implementation process quick and efficient. We hand dig trenches where needed and layer mulch and soil upon backfill. We clean up when done and “leave it like we found it”. We were once accused of not showing up until the lights came on at dusk. If we have to lift sod or relocate plants we water them in before we leave.
Maintenance and Repair
We offer regularly scheduled maintenance packages, as well as per call repairs to address your repair and maintenance needs. Maintenance includes cleaning fixtures, relamping, fixture location adjustments to accommodate plant growth and checking transformers and controls.
LED Upfits
Let us upgrade your legacy system to LED. We will evaluate your system and make recommendation among the many choices available. LEDs save an average of 80% energy usage and last 8-10 times as long as incandescent halogen. Often, drop-in replacement LEDs can be combined with your existing fixtures for an economical upfit with short payback time. Integral LED fixtures are also an option when higher levels of light are required.
Holiday Lighting
We offer holiday lighting to a few new clients each year. We wrap tree trunks and branches with mini lights, spiral wrap larger trees with C-7 LEDs, install LED-wrapped grapevine balls, install color MR16s in existing facade lighting among other services. We sell rather than rent holiday lighting product and offer takedown and storage services.
Consulting
Southern Lights offers landscape lighting consultations by registered landscape architect to the professional design community. Landscape architects, interior designers, architects and engineers can benefit from our hands-on experience and knowledge of lamping and various product lines.
